ADRA Bahamas Advent Message

As we all know, 2020 has been a year like no other. It is an understatement to say it’s been a bumpy year. This is a leap year that we probably wished we had just leaped over. There has been a lot of sickness and hardship. There has been a lot of financial hard times. By necessity, a lot has changed in the way we do things. The way we worship, create community, do school, socialize, grocery shop and cultivate conversation, have all changed.

In the midst of all the changes we have experienced, ADRA Bahamas has sought to be a constant in helping people rebuild their homes and lives and students have a quality access to virtual learning during the pandemic. We have continued to repair roofs, provide tablets to students, rehabilitated homes and schools damaged by Hurricane Dorian, provide items of cares to children and more, giving hope to communities across The Bahamas.

The one holiday that demands joy, cheers and laughter is now just upon us. It is a time of joy, a time of gladness and cheer and a time of giving. Yet many hearts are troubled. The reality of this year has somehow been a lot with not much to smile or cheer about. In what for many in what is shaping up to be a bleak holiday season, we can be purveyors of cheer.

Proverbs 17:22 says a merry heart does good like a medicine. But a broken spirit dries the bones.

Mark Twain echoes a similar sentiment to help us with cheer when he states “The best way to cheer yourself up is to cheer someone else.”

This holiday season despite what we may face is still time to be of good cheer and to give cheer. Why do we think of giving and giving cheer at this time of year?

Two words.

God gave.

The cheer we give come from the ultimate source of hope: Jesus Christ. God gave us life, God gave us existence, and most of all he gave us His Son. We think of Jesus at this time of the year, because Christ came to the world. Jesus himself shared with us that it is more blessed to give than to receive,

Giving cheer is no small task, and this is only possible because of ADRA Bahamas volunteers and donors who give generously this season and throughout the year. So to each of you, we say thank you.

This season as you take the time o give the gift of cheer to others, we invite you to take the time to give a gift of cheer to our projects to help others. You can make a one time donation or a monthly donation. Help us continue to give the gift of cheer to others so that they may live the way God intended

May God bless you and fill you with cheer this holiday season!
